Perak govt collapses !!

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today announced that Barisan Nasional now has the mandate to take over the Perak government from Pakatan Rakyat (PR), with the return of Bota assemblyman Datuk Nasarudin Hashim to Umno and the support of three former PR assemblymen who quit their parties to become independents.

Speaking at a short press conference at his office here, Najib said: "BN Perak has the majority assemblymen in the state when three assemblymen, Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi (Behrang), Kapt Mohd Osman Jailu (Changkat Jering) and Hee Yit Foong (Jelapang) informed me that they have each sent letters to Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah to inform him they have left their respective parties."

Jamaluddin and Osman won their seats on Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) tickets while Hee won Jelapang as a DAP candidate and made history by being the first woman to be appointed deputy state legislative speaker.

"Today, Bota assemblyman Datuk Nasarudin Hashim also met me to say that he wants to rejoin Umno," Najib said.

All four assemblymen were with Najib at the press conference.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir Mohamad has blasted the Umno leadership for 'stooping low' in accepting two former PKR assemblypersons who have been charged with corruption.

Some excerpts from Chedet: "LOMPAT MELOMPAT"

"However, the two (Jamaluddin and Osman) had been charged with corruption,” lamented Mahathir.

"Is Umno so desperate until it is not willing to wait until the court's decision before accepting them. If Umno accepts them now, and they are found not guilty then the Umno-led government would be accused of influencing the courts."

"Whether this was right or wrong is not the question. In the eyes of the public, the charge is believable and would have an impact on the next general election,".

"Unfortunately, this is not legal under the law. If they want to leave the party, they should give in their own letters which they signed to be handed directly to the Speaker.

"I believe that such undated letters would be rejected by the Speaker. They would remain as an elected assembly person despite hopping to another party or being independent,". (Source)

Why a BN-led Perak government is a farce ?

In March 2008 TEN state seats in Perak which were won by BN with a majority of less than 1,000. All of these seats had a total voting turn out of about 10,000 or more. Furthermore, SIX of the ten seats mentioned were won with a majority of less than 500.
