Malaysia: Islamic Supremacism Behind a Facade of Moderation
From Western Resistance by Ruy Dia:
Malaysia, the so-called "moderate Islamic State", is in truth a supremacist Islamic State, like all others. The difference is one of degree and brazeness, not of the nature of the state. The anonymous Malaysian friend who sent us this story alerts us of the practice of banking discrimination, of which this writer was unaware, and of the practice of "affirmative action" in higher learning, of which this writer was. The email is so good I'll quote it at length:
Our friend is wrong--but only about whether this kind of discrimination is first practiced in Malaysia. Other majorities have treated their minorities in such ways and worse. This doesn't detract, however, from the vicious, unjust nature of affirmative action in general and these practices in particular. They are, besides economic discrimination, a weapon of Islamization; ethnic Indians and Chinese would have an incentive to re-label themselves as "sons of the soil" by becoming Muslim, or could simply choose to leave the country to escape discrimination. People who try to leave Islam, on the other hand, cannot do so at all by law. It is through practices like these, through the generations, that Islam obliterates other religions and cultures.

hi,
I think your annoymous friend does not understand the concept of bumuputera. you need not be of hte islam faith to be a bumiputera. In sabah and sarawak the locals or natives are of the christian faith and they enjoy same privillages too.. thou i dont think this is fair practice especially since the government is trying to create a 'malaysian race' and ommit the silly 1234 in all forms now.. but you have to understand this. the NEP was set up to help the locals out and in return benefit the minorities.. the bumis by default are not hte agressive or driven type and this would apply to all natives across the board whether it is the indians in indian or chinese in chinana. they are just bloody lazy coz they feel they own the land and therefore its the govenrment's duty to give them special privellages. THis concept, has benefitted many non-bumis i.e. the indian and chinese, it has made us strive harder to get what we want.
I was at an uncle's place sometime back for a little dinner get together and he was tell us 'young ones' about his thought and i must say i am with him on this one. the NEP was set up to help the people who cant help themselves. ofcourse they need assistance, same as the redindians in the US and the abroginals in australia needs assistance. Is it fair? well not entirely, but it has definaelty made the monorities work hard to achieve theirs.

It's true that those aborigines are labeled as "Bumiputera". But tell me, SassyJam - how many Catholic Kadazans and Ibans that you know of are permitted to enter the UITM university, that till this day is Muslim-only? How many of them have received MARA scholarships for doing their Degree and Masters in the UK and the United States?
How many Catholic bumiputeras that you know of managed to become Associate Professors or even full-fledged Professors at local universities, compared to Malay professors?
How many catholic Kadazan or Iban -owned construction companies qualified as "Bumiputera contractors" for major projects like the construction of Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and IDR?
Please remove the wool from your eyes. The government is only giving lip service by providing the aborigines with the "bumiputera" title when in reality they are not receiving the same bumiputera benefits as the Muslim Malays.
But, on the other hand, a "Bumiputera contractor" fronted by a Chinese who converted to Islam can clinch major construction deals under Maju Holdings, a turnkey main contractor. Chinese police officers can rise up the rank and file faster once they have an "Abdullah" behind their names.
Under the NEP, the Malay middle class, as a percentage of the total Malay population, is now close to 80 percent. In comparison, the Indian middle class is only within 60 percent of the Indian population. The Chinese middle class is also within 70+ percent of the overall population. Although a brunt of Malaysia's economic might lies in the hands of the Chinese, the "distribution of wealth" by the NEP hasn't helped the poverty-stricken Indians and Chinese, and has instead revered the fortunes of only the Muslim Malays, increasing their middle class from below 40% two decades ago till almost 80% at present.
If you know people working for analyst firms that come up with figures for the government think-tanks, you'll see what I'm talking about.
The NEP is now only a tool for the "Malay Agenda", an Islamic supremacist policy. It has already achieved its objective as far as wealth distribution is concerned (i.e. to make the middle class dominated by Malays).
Please wake up and get in touch with reality.. get to know people on the inside track.. don't just believe everything you read and hear in the state-controlled news outlets.

The prime minister, Abdullah Badawi, has reiterated that the New Economic Policy (dubbed the Never Ending Policy by detractors) will remain. The NEP is a "positive discrimination" affirmative action policy. But, probably being the first in the world to do so, this policy benefits the *majority* community at the expense of the minority. Apartheid is practiced openly in Malaysia, thanks to Islamic ways of doing things.
Muslims get a minimum of 7% discount on property prices in Malaysia. It is mandatory for property developers to specify the amount of discriminatory discount given to Muslims (under the term 'bumiputra discount') on their advertisements. During property expos, the discount for Muslims can go as high as 15%. Considering that the average middle-class Malaysian earns around RM3500 and the price of a decent piece of property is around RM250,000 to RM300,000, the discounts that Muslims get for buying property is not small at all.
Furthermore, some banking institutions have implemented policies of allowing only Muslim-owned legal firms to be their panel lawyers. Government projects also make it mandatory for Muslim-owned companies (called "bumiputra contractors") to be the only ones eligible. It is also an open secret that for public examinations, the Muslims always get better results because their examination papers are marked with a default handicap equivalent to the passing rate. However, these same students consistently exhibit poor command of mathematics and the English language at all levels, and are often rejected by foreign institutions of higher learning.[...]
Our friend is wrong--but only about whether this kind of discrimination is first practiced in Malaysia. Other majorities have treated their minorities in such ways and worse. This doesn't detract, however, from the vicious, unjust nature of affirmative action in general and these practices in particular. How can I believe what SassyJam says when I have seen evidence of inequality in the government services?
I know of a man who waited for 16 years to be promoted from Major to Leftenan Colonel. That is ridiculously too long. That man "strived harder to get what he wanted". Each time he strived, he was pushed back down and a junior officer was allowed to climb above him - without much effort.
How does that benefit this non-bumi officer? If at all, it demoralised him.
"However, these same students consistently exhibit poor command of mathematics and the English language at all levels"
Not all of them exhibit poor command of those subjects. That I have to disagree. There are SOME pretty well-rounded and intelligent Malay students who set themselves apart from the norm. These RARE few are identified and picked up fairly quickly by companies and are always in demand.
I used to work in a recruitment agency and I can attest that 3/4 of those government-aided students do not do well in interviews or even have a knack of presenting a well-written CV/resume. Some local companies have doubts about hiring them. How do they expect a MNC to pick them up?
