Misquoted, again !

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has clarified that he did not label all women bloggers as liars.

He said his statement was specifically made in reference to an Indonesian journalist who wrote in her blog about the ministry’s inefficiency.

Tengku Adnan said he loved “all women” and was “here because of a woman.”

“In fact, most of my supporters in my constituency are women,” he said.

Why Indon TV crew couldn’t film

I REFER to the article Reporter’s Red Tape Nightmare (The Star, Feb 26).

I would like to thank The Star for highlighting the issue raised by an Indonesian freelance TV presenter (Nila Tanzil) who complained about not being able to shoot and film at two shopping malls during the Flora Fest 2007 Mega Fam post tour.

However, Tourism Malaysia would appreciate it if The Star could have at least verified the facts with us before running the article that suggests incompetence and delivery system failures.

In a year, about 6,000 media and travel trade agents are invited for a first-hand experience of the sights and sounds of beautiful Malaysia under an educational programme called the Mega Fam programme.

Nila, a freelance TV presenter engaged by SCTV of Indonesia and her two colleagues were among the Mega Fam participants invited to cover the Flora Fest 2007 parade on Jan 27 at Putrajaya.

A tour of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Genting Highlands was arranged for the media from Indonesia. The tour included two shopping breaks at two malls for the SCTV crew to do their personal shopping before returning home.

Nila made her ad hoc requests to shoot and film at the two malls. However, requests at the eleventh hour require some form of notification and accreditation. A prior consent in writing had first to be obtained from the relevant authorities before any filming could be done in any of these premises.

In a letter (addressed to Tourism Malaysia Jakarta), Bapak Gunawan, the producer for SCTV said Nila was acting on her own and her actions have transgressed the terms at SCTV.
