X-Rated Streets in Malaysia ?

Malaysia is not Kansas....nor is Japan, China or any other country for that matter.

Whenever employees at my company in Japan had trouble adjusting or just understanding Japanese culture they would say "This sure isn't Kansas," a take off from Dorothy in Wizard of Oz.

Malaysia is not Kansas either.

Some politician who is fed up with the conditions of the roads in the northern state of Penang in cohoots with his followers and armed with, not stripped of,malaysia.jpg brushes and white paint, while chanting "Say No to damaged roads" (won't that get you all excited?) are marching the streets and painting big white Xs on all the potholes and broken streets.

A Malaysian politician thinks designating roads "X-rated" will draw authorities' attention and force them to make the streets more decent, a news report said.

Lee Hack Teik, an assemblyman in the northern state of Penang, painted large Xs along a major street in the state's capital, Georgetown, to protest the poor condition of the city's roads, the New Straits Times newspaper reported Tuesday.

Armed with a can of white paint and a brush, Lee painted the Xs over potholes, uneven surfaces and other damaged areas, the Times said.

Lee, accompanied by supporters displaying posters with slogans like "Say No To Damaged Roads," said he was fed up with the poorly maintained roads and the uncaring attitude of local council authorities.

"I have raised the matter many times, but nothing has been done," the report quoted Lee as saying. "The ... roads are a danger to motorists."

Lee, a member of the Malaysian Chinese Association party, could not be reached at his office for further details Tuesday morning. The MCA is a member of the National Front coalition, which governs Penang.

The Penang Island Municipal Council blames heavy trucks carrying heavy material to construction sites for the damage along some roads. (AP)

X-rated in Malaysia does NOT mean what it does in the states or on the Net...eh?

It's not known whether they got any response.

In a worse case scenario...the group might have to consider some real x-rated activity.

Let's hope not.

Another 'odd news' of Bolehsia reports the Star :

Surau thanks thieves !!

AFTER consistently being a target of thieves, a surau committee in Seremban has put up a banner to say “Thank You” to the culprits, reported Utusan Malaysia.

The committee of the Temiang Jaya surau, exasperated by the actions of the culprits who had stolen so many items from the prayer house, hopes this reverse psychology will deter them from repeating the offence.

The thieves had taken away metal items such as locks, water pipes and chains and had also broken into the storeroom to steal cooking gas tanks and utensils.

They even stole the loudspeaker, amplifier and a collection box, imam Dahlan Mohamad told the paper.

He added that the thieves struck even after the items were replaced, adding that there had been 10 incidents since the surau first opened in 1980.

“Our congregation held special prayers for Allah to soften the hearts of the thieves, with the hope that they won’t steal again,” Dahlan said.

“The thieves don’t seem to be afraid of the law and the retribution in the afterlife.

“So, we decided to hang a banner outside the surau,” he added.
