Beautiful Sunday ?!

From KeADILan Website :

Tarikh: 21 Januari (Ahad)

Masa: 4:00 petang
Tempat: Simpang Jalan Tutup, Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Batu 11, Jalan Cheras

Why only opposition party care to protest? Does it means the rest of Malaysian people happy with the toll fare increased

Also what were they protesting about? The increase of toll price is a fact that cannot be changed, the contract is in black and white. Even if the government decided to cancel the increment, there will be other clauses like extending the toll collection period.

In the midst of the furor over the toll charge hike, Dr Mahathir admitted that toll concession agreements were not well-conceived during his tenure as prime minister.

Obviously the toll price saga has heated up to supernova magnitude that Dr Mahathir is distancing himself from the dodgy agreements, but effecting self-humility - calling himself a 'stupid' politician - and blaming the government officers for not checking the fine print of the agreement with the toll concessionaires.

What the opposition leaders should sort out is who were the government decision makers when signing the contract.

People like Samy Vellu and Mahathir should explain the logic behind those contracts… is it really benefiting the people or causing burdens? If they can’t find a good explanation, time for anti-corruption agency to investigate the cases.

Under concession agreements signed between the government and the operators which span three decades, the companies are allowed to regularly raise toll rates and critics say they are making massive profits.

The government said it has paid compensation to companies to fend off toll hikes, but that it could no longer afford to do this.

Works Minister S Samy Vellu last month said the government would still be forking out RM2.58 billion in compensation, despite the hikes.

Lawmakers, activists and unionists have slammed the rises, which they say are unjustified after the nation's steepest-ever fuel price hikes in February last year.

The rise in petrol prices saw inflation hit a six-year high of 4.8 percent in March.

Last year, a anti-fuel hike demonstration, staged by the Opposition and some civil society groups in the vicinity of the domineering Petronas Twin Towers, did not get even a squeak in the mainstream press. It was as if this event was of no national and political significance.

On May, anti-fuel hike demo, which was supposed to be the climax of a series of anti-fuel hike demonstrations, yet it ended on a tragic note when police forcefully broke up the protest with at least two seriously injured. it has been dubbed as the ‘Bloody Sunday’ incident

On the downward trend of crude oil prices, Dr Mahathir had said that if prices stayed low, then the government might consider reducing the prices of petroleum products in the country.

"I think we should always look at the price and see what we can do to provide relief for the people,"

Just too bad, our sleepy PM thinks otherwise :

There will be no downward revision in fuel prices despite crude oil prices falling below US$50 per barrel in the global market,
- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi

Okay , now tell me what the opposition were trying to achieve at the beginning? What did the protest achieves in the end? I am not against all protest though, if it’s effective; but it’s rarely meaningful.

And do you think the decision by PAS and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) to boycott the Jan 28 Batu Talam by-election in Pahang as “justified” and “understandable”.?

They also say the boycott is a test for the Election Commission (EC), the government and democracy in Malaysia.

Barisan Nasional is going to enjoy the last laugh, and it is going to be the best laugh.

Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi described the decision by the opposition to boycott the Batu Talam state by-election and yet field a young independent candidate as a cowardly act.

I would like to say it again, I am not against all protest , if it’s effective; but it’s rarely meaningful.,and I am not a supporter of BN either. I am what I am.
