Turn On the Sun

Turn on the Sun
Turn on the sun, turn on the sun
Light up the world, come everyone
Turn off the wind, thunder and rain
Turn on the sun, let's smile again.

Thinker,tailor man
Radiate all the love you can
Lawyer, engineer
Let your heart be a pioneer.

Turn on the sun, turn on the sun
Open the doors, come tell everyone
Bad times are out, good times are in
Turn on the sun, let's smile again

Minors,steeple-jack
Warm emotions are coming back
Sailor, stevedore
Here's a message you can't ignore

Turn on the sun, turn on the sun
Light up the world,come everyone
Turn off the wind, thunder and rain
Turn on the sun, let's smile again

Gather up all the goddness in you
Turn on the sun, turn on the sun
What a world when we all thinking good
Turn on the sun, let's smile again

Heavy rains in parts of Malaysia and Indonesa have triggered floods that killed at least 20 people and forced 170,000 others to abandon their homes, reports said.

At least 13 people were killed and 14 others were missing in torrential rains that swept Indonesia's provinces of Aceh and North Sumatra.

Over 80,000 villagers were forced from their homes in the two provinces.

Officials in southern Malaysia said heavy rains had killed seven people and displaced more than 90,000 others over the past week.

In Indonesia's Aceh province, on the northern tip of Sumatra, floods inundated six districts along the northern coast, cutting off land transportation with neighbouring North Sumatra.

Nine villagers were killed, including five in the district of Tamiang, and two were missing in Bener Meria district. A total of 70,000 villagers fled their homes.

In North Sumatra's district of Langkat, four villagers were found dead and 12 others were reported missing, the private El Shinta radio reported, quoting local officials.

In Malaysia, nearly 74,000 evacuees were in public shelters in the southern state of Johor, 12,650 in neighbouring Malacca state and 5,100 in eastern Pahang state

The number of flood evacuees in Johor has started to drop with 69,789 still at the relief centres as at 8am Sunday compared with 77,699 Saturday last.

A state Social Welfare Department spokesman said that in Muar district, which had the most evacuees, the number had dropped to 22,273 compared with 22,604 Saturday but Batu Pahat registered an increase to 14,808.

There were now 11,860 evacuees in Kota Tinggi district, Segamat (10,609), Kluang (5,209), Johor Baharu (2,873), Pontian (1,612) and Mersing (545), he said.

Meanwhile, a Kluang Information Office spokesman said more relief centres were expected to be closed following the fine weather this morning.

However, the water level at the Machap Dam was at 17.53m, which is above the danger zone of 17.4m, and Sungai Kahang was also at the danger level at 8.98m while Sungai Mengkibol was at the warning level at 24.01m, he said.

Bloggers have diligently published posts relating to the situation, updating their readers with graphics, photographs and video clips, from local papers and contributions from Internet users.

The Singapore Red Cross is sending S$10,000 worth of emergency food supplies to flood victims in Johor.

Other Singapore non-governmental organisations are gearing up to send volunteers to help in whatever way they can.

Rice, biscuits, instant noodles and sardines are some of the essential food supplies for Johor flood victims.

The call to order these supplies came after a meeting between representatives from the Singapore's Red Cross and the Malaysian Red Crescent Society on Saturday morning.

Three Red Cross vans will make their way across the Causeway on Sunday to ferry the much-needed supplies for the more than 62,000 flood victims in Johor.

Another Singapore non-governmental organisation, Mercy Relief, is working with Mercy Malaysia and the Land Rover Club to distribute hygiene kits and 100 water filters to those affected.

The team of 10 drivers and other volunteers will leave for Johor on Sunday

You can also send stuff to the Red Crescent. They have a Bilik Gerakan/ Flood Relief Centre at the Puteri Pacific Hotel, JB. Enquiries and donation Hotlines: 07-219-9995, 07-219-9996.

They need foodstuff, foam mattresses, blankets, disposable nappies, women's underwear, sanitary pads, also cheques and NEW clothes.

Kenyataan Media
23 Disember 2006
Kerajaan BN Lembap Atasi Bencana Alam (Bah Besar)

Azizi (Negeri Sembilan) : 012-3696474
Yusof (Melaka) : 016-2462913
Nurin (Johor) : 012-7616421
